Qiwi app

Client: Nautan

Media: Mobile

Date: 2011

Components: Branding, UI/UX, icon, illustration.

URL: N/A

Description: Qiwi is an application that showcases animals that are more or less unknown by the common person, divides the species by taxonomy and there's different ways to display their characteristics for example by Habitat, Status (Endangered), etc. In the first version of the app I'm building a small database to go included with the app, for future versions the idea is to call the data directly from Wikipedia or other reliable source. This app is intended for students or people that like to read and about exotic animals, the structure of the app is modular so the content can be easily changed to expand or create another companion app that showcases other groups of information (Dinosaurs, Extinct mammals, etc). All the iconography is unique and was created from scratch.

Components: Product Style-guide, Visual Design, Illustration

URL: http://www.insectoid.net/clients/sedify

Description: SEDIFY is a small collaborative company that creates intuitive and beautiful iPhone apps, I worked as part of the team for two projects and they ask me to design a Brand Style-guide and also a web presence for them. For the design, we let the products and iconography do all the talking. It was important for the site to be visually modular to allow for easy swap-outs as products changed and more products are created. Since I am not be building the site, a style guide was also put together to help designers and developers at SEDIFY.

I designed the product style-guide and all the elements of the website including some 3D diagrams, the layout was built using AI CS4, PSD CS4 and Fireworks CS4.

Components: Product Style-guide, UI and Interaction Design

URL: N/A

Description: Tornasol is an interactive color wheel and swatch library app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that helps artists and designers identify, translate, capture and showcase color. Tornasol exports the palette in ASE, ACO, ACT and GIF formats. This lets you save the palette and load it into Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Flash, Corel Draw, etc. The Image Picker utility extracts colors from photos and lets you pick your own and select color schemes based on your choice. Schemes include Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary, Split-complementary and Triadic.

My part in this project was to design the product identity, create the elements of the UI to be used as Custom Views and map the interaction design of the app, the graphics for the Custom Views of the UI are unique to this application, buttons, tab bars and sliders have been customized to give the app a more unique style while following the functionality best practices for UI design for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The UI sources are built in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and are fully scalable to accommodate to different screen resolutions and screen dimensions such as the new iPad without have to rebuild them. All the elements in the source files are vectors with the exception of the welcome screen which was created in Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Fireworks CS4. The application core is currently under development.

Wiks app

Client: Sedify

Media: Mobile

Date: November 2009

Components: Logo, UI and Interaction Design

URL: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wiks/id330947074?mt=8

Description: Wiks is an iPhone app that uses Wikipedia API's to display relevant and quick shortcuts to what you are looking for. Wiks filters out all the regular text by extracting only the links between topics. This lets you jump from knot to knot, from topic to topic, without all the reading. Rather than spend time reading entire articles to find what you're looking for, enter a search term and tap a result to begin tracing a path to the information you need. Every time you tap a topic word in the list, it becomes the new "root word" that generates its own list of related topics. I was responsible for the UI design as well as the overall look and feel of the app from the logo to the color scheme, tools used, AI, PSD, Fireworks.
